Cheesy Ground Beef Casserole (Southern Living 1979)

Chery picked this recipe for us to try.  When I saw it, I knew immediately it would be a hit with my family.  I didn't change too much in this recipe, and everyone loved it.

Cheesy Ground Beef Casserole
3 cups whole wheat egg noodles
1 pound lean ground beef
1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce
1/8 t pepper
3/4 cup small-curd, low fat cottage cheese
3/4 cup sour cream
1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

Cook noodles according to package directions; rinse well and set aside.
Meanwhile, saute ground beef in a large skillet until lightly browned; drain well.  Add tomato sauce and pepper.  Stir well, and simmer at least five minutes.
Combine cottage cheese and sour cream.
In a greased rectangular dish that holds about 2-quarts, place noodles.  Spoon cottage cheese mixture on top of the noodles.  Spoon meat mixture over cheese mixture.  Sprinkle with shredded cheese.
Bake at 375 for 10 to 15 minutes.
